Go further for all the information that may help you enroll team members for participation in the game jam. Please read it thoroughly and if you have any doubt, contact the jam coordinators.
When & where?
Geek Jam 2018 will take place in Poznań, Poland from October 9th until October 11th – just prior to the 2018 edition of Game Industry Conference.
This year the game jam will be conveniently held on the premises of the Poznań International Fair, within walking distance from Poznań city center and the main train station.
The Geek Jam 2018 will have the main theme as well as additional challenges. The jamers will be given a unique library of audio samples from Polish Radio Experimental Studio to use in their creations.
In 1957, the Polish Radio Experimental Studio (PRES) first opened its doors in Warsaw, and would very soon become an important European centre for the creation of exciting and original electro-acoustic music. PRES miraculously escaped censorship during the Communist years and inspired composers from across the globe to visit and experiment with the latest in electroacoustic music and sonic art. Next to the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, PRES was the only institution which enabled international exchange, hosting guests from the USA, Western Europe or Scandinavia. From visual arts to theatre, happenings, films and sonic installations, the artists, engineers and composers who worked in the PRES managed to establish a new language, open to the audience’s interpretation, which shaped the Polish and European artistic life.
Since 2nd October 2018, a sound material from Polish Radio Experimental Studio has been available for free on a site of a leading music-software company Ableton. Samples of works by three composers: Elżbieta Sikora, Krzysztof Knittel and Ryszard Szeremeta, can be now used to create new songs and sondtracks for films or video games.
Teams & submission
At this jam, we’re not going to be doing any on-site team building. We require the teams to be already organized before the jam and as such submitted to the organizers. The jam is not open, all the teams to participate will be selected by organizers from the submissions. Teams should consist of between 2 and 4 people. (Except special, justified cases, which would have to be accepted by the organizers).
All teams must have an audio person on board, to provide sound design for the game and comply with the audio theme of the jam.
The submission is continuous! There is no submission deadline.
Organizers will end the call when the number of chosen teams will exceed the capacity of the venue. We will send regular e-mail updates to the candidates, whether they have been chosen or rejected. Please fill in the form on the bottom of the page to register. This will work as a registration form for your entire team. The organizers will contact the registered teams.
Up to two best games will be awarded. The main award in this jam is a budget of 9.000Euro to continue development of the game project from the jam for the next two to three months. To attend the jam, it is required to accept the chance and responsibility of the award, which means that the winning teams will be obliged to continue work on the game within the assigned budget.
